The Audi Q5 is not the most characterful SUV on the market, but it is one of the most sophisticated. Following its redesign last year, the Q5 wears debonair sheetmetal and a Bauhaus interior replete with the most advanced tech that Ingolstadt has to offer. Its three-screen digital command center is an impressive setup, although tech-challenged drivers might struggle with Audi's labyrinthine infotainment interface.
The Q5 only comes one way: with a 268-hp turbocharged four-cylinder and all-wheel drive. That's a slight power increase over the previous generation and enough to make the Q5 quicker than an equivalent BMW X3. Its handling is sufficient, too, but numb steering isolates the driver from the road and makes spirited driving feel a bit sterile. Still, the Q5 is a solid option if you prefer a luxury compact SUV with a business-over-pleasure attitude.
Expert Tip: If you're looking for a fancy cabin, the Mercedes GLC-class's interior appointments are cut above those in the Q5.
